From the City of Sunbury, June 12, 2025:
We are reaching out to share some important information regarding upcoming road closures in Sunbury that will impact access to the OTET/Sandel Legacy Trail from Vernon Street.
We have a large community event, Sizzle and Sounds, scheduled for
Saturday, August 16, 2025, but road closures will begin the afternoon of
Friday, August 15 to allow for setup. Once closed, no traffic—including cyclists—will be permitted through the event area. Streets affected include Columbus, Vernon, and Granville, which will be filled with food trucks, vendors, and equipment in preparation for the event.
While we absolutely welcome and encourage cyclists to attend and enjoy the event, we want to emphasize that bicycles will not be permitted to ride through the closed streets once the setup begins. Last year, there were several incidents involving cyclists entering restricted areas with live electrical equipment and heavy pedestrian traffic—creating potential safety risks. This year, we’re working proactively to avoid similar concerns.
To support this effort, I’ve attached a proposed detour map outlining alternate routes around the closures. Please take a moment to review it and let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions for a more effective detour.
